Launched last month, Wafrica — Africa plus wa for Japan — has unveiled a range of kimono handcrafted in an array of African cotton fabrics that would seem to be a million miles from the subtle silks more commonly associated with traditional Japanese dress. Yet despite the orange comets and flashes of lightning tearing across a moss-green background, and the tribal swirls in colors that recall the sun-drenched African soil, the prints blend seamlessly into the kimono form before they surprise Japanese shoppers with their foreign origin.

The cultural cocktail is the brainchild of Serge Mouangue, a Tokyo-based concept- car designer for Nissan, who joined forces with Kururi, a Tokyo-based kimono- maker, to produce the traditional Japanese attire in 18 African prints sourced in markets from Nigeria to Senegal.

i actually have huge fucking issues with the concept of “cafab privilege.”

because like, trans men have conditional male privilege and are privileged within queer spaces in one aspect.

and cisgender women have cis privilege which manifests in a completely different way.

but there is basically no overlap between the conditional male privilege that trans men have and the cis privilege that cis women have.  so lumping both groups together under a vague “afab privilege” seems like an oversimplification of a much more complex dynamic idk.

okay so we know about jesus when he’s a baby, and jesus when he’s an adult, but does the bible ever mention his rebellious teenager years?

‘jesus, go feed the donkey.’

the ground shakes a little, and a voice comes down from the sky

‘do what your stepfather says you little shit’

There is this story in the Bible where the Holy Family is traveling and 12-year-old Jesus goes missing (i`m sorry but i have a mental image of Mary screaming “JESUS!” like Kevin`s mom on the plane in Home Alone) so they go back to Jerusalem and find Jesus in the temple chatting with his new friends the elders. And this is how medieval painter Simone Martini portrayed Mary and Joseph lecturing Jesus. Just look at those faces.image

And this is why i love art history.

Anonymous said: in the past, you've said that men are bad and you encourage afab people to avoid and abandon manhood whenever possible as well… is that something you still believe or is that just something people had to say in the old political climate?

so, first and foremost i am a gender abolitionist. i believe that the system of gender, as it is constructed and perpetuated by the racist, misogynist, transphobic hegemony of western capitalism is fundamentally corrupt and toxic and must be overthrown for the good of us all. i am working for a world where gender is more like a personal aesthetic preference than a huge system that wounds us all from the moment we’re born.

the old political climate certainly shaped some of the things i said, but i’ve honestly seen afab trans folks trying to give masculinity a shot and feeling wrong about it happen often enough that i’m unwilling to write it off as Bad Politic. friend supercargautier made a post that brings up some salient points, but i feel calling “afab trans person who has abandoned masculinity and still values womanhood” an incoherent category is unfair to the friends i have who are currently inhabiting that category. at the very least, coherency is not a prerequisite for validity.

being a man or wanting to be a man does not make you fundamentally a bad person, it just makes you a member (or a potential member) of the class that benefits from the patriarchy at the expense of women and non-men, and it makes it more important than ever to analyze your actions and reject misogynist pressures and actions when they arise.

i’m most confident in my politics where they handle folks who feel pressured into masculinity or uncomfortable with it for whatever reason, and where cat’s response was “AH THAT MEANS YOU’RE A LADY” my response is “great, you don’t have to be a dude if it hurts you, you can be whatever you want”

alanis: Clouds and shadows on Mars, photographed by Mars Express, 24th May 2012.

Between 28 and 36°S, 284°E, on the arc of highlands that surround the southeast Solis Planum. The crater split between the 2nd and 3rd images is Voeykov, about 75 km across, named for climatologist and geographer Alexander Ivanovich Voeykov (1842-1916). The small, deep crater toward bottom left of the 4th image is Los, named for a village of about 400 people in Gävleborg County, Sweden.

Composite of 3 visible light images for colour, and 5 monochrome images for animation. Colour is not balanced naturalistically, and the slightly psychedelic colours of the clouds are a result of mismatches between the images where the clouds have moved between exposures.
